well, they can determine our physiological makeup and our biochemical reactions to certain stimuli; they could, in theory, determine which chemicals (flavors) stimulate the neurons in the brain's pleasure center and ensure, through conditioning, that the body will seek these chemicals in a manner similar to an addiction.

Philosopical debate over donuts continues...
Does it mean that everything that we desire are caused by our genes?
I believe that what we crave for is determined by our thoughts rather than
our physiological make-up. Our thoughts are not products of our genes.
Pleasure is not a product of our genes...
Any objection?
BTW, I like mango-flavored donuts... I don't drink coffee... I hate coffee...
Ischaramoochie- 08-17-2006
our thoughts might not be direct products of our genes, but the latter do affect how our physical body responds to certain stimuli: since the cortex of the brain is the part where conscious deliberation is located, it would make sense to say that a change in the physical state of the cortex would also result in a change in thought patterns. since genes provide the information for the physical constitution of the brain, then we could say that they also determine the brain's response to certain stimuli. of course, genotype is only half the story; there's also the influence of the environment on a person's phenotype.

true or false? of the four choices given, only one is a donut. :o
hamstermancer- 08-18-2006
Choco Log!
Because sometimes a choco log is just a choco log.
Ischaramoochie- 08-18-2006
